Matthew was a tax collector (government official). Simon was a Zealot (party wanting to overthrow the government). Two guys with opposing views united by one purpose – to follow and serve Jesus.
So, how shall I apply that in my life today?
I think I’ll try to not create intentionally polarizing conversations- try to listen and understand more when people have a political point to make – ask good questions that create curiosity in others – and test all my positions through the filter of scripture rather than my emotions.
I wonder if we could do the same today? Put down our agendas and listen more than talk? And take time to understand what Jesus taught us and follow him.
