“Beware! Don’t be greedy for what you don’t have. Real life is not measured by how much we own” – Jesus (did He REALLY say that?). Yup. Check it out in Luke 12:15.
It seems many people want to be leaders but few choose the role of servant. Check out Amazon and search for books on “leadership”, then on “servanthood”. See what I mean? No one wants to read a book about servanthood.
In the Parable of the Bags of Gold, Jesus describes a man contemplating a long trip while leaving his servants in charge. The man gives bags of gold to each of the three servants, in differing amounts based on their abilities. Two of the servants put the money to work while the last hid his. The two that invested the gold received the blessing from their master “well done, good and faithful servant” while the third had his taken from his and given to the one who already had most.
In a life of following Jesus, the word “follow” is the key. It is a verb; a word of action. You can’t follow without moving.
Jesus also said “You will detect them by the way they act, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit” (Matthew 7:16a).
Are you known for what you do? How do others in your live or community see you? Can people see your faith in action?
We all should aspire to hear those words from Jesus, “Well done, good and faithful servant”
