Dirty Window – Dirty Life

Sitting in my office the other day, writing out my morning prayer, I looked up and noticed I was facing the rising sun. I love that about my office, that it faces the sun in the morning; a time I’m sitting there often.

The previous day I looked out the same window – clean and clear – able to see the trees, street, my neighbor’s homes. This morning my experience was different.

When the window glass was illuminated by the bright light, I could see how dirty it was. A film of filth, water spots and other debris. I seemed my view which was so perfect only a day before was masked and obviously in need of a cleaning.

This window resembles my life and the life of all Believers.

I was living my life thinking I’m a good person. I do good things. And I’m surely not as bad as many people. I mess up once in a while but who doesn’t?

Once I fell onto my knees and submitted my life to a Savior, one who gave everything to pay the price for my “mess”, I had a much clearer view of the window of my life. When the Son (capital “S”) illuminated my life, I could see the window of my life as it actually was – a window that needed a serious cleaning. No matter what I did, how often I cleaned it, the filth and the spots continue to return.

Only Jesus is the perfectly clean window. And He promises that I will inherit his cleanliness so that when He sees me after I depart this life, he will be looking through a window without blemish.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (ESV)
