Your Parents Will Fail You

Psalm 27:10 ESV says, “For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.” Pastor Tim Keller referenced this in an old sermon I listened to on a podcast recently. It caused me to think about disappointments I’ve had in my life, and I know I have disappointed my own children and others I hold dear to me in my life at times.

Our earthly parents and others close to us, will fail, disappoint and let us down, however God will always deliver on His promises. It may seem in the present, even God lets us down – because bad things happen, people we love die too soon and we don’t get the outcomes we want. But we must wait until the end of the story. Here’s simply a small listing of his promises. Be encouraged by these today:

  • John 8:36 (ESV) “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
  • John 3:16 (ESV) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
  • Philippians 4:19 (ESV) “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
  • Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV) “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
  • Romans 8:28 (ESV) “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

And many, many more promises like these come true for those who believe and place their hope and trust in Christ.

It can be hard to overcome our disappointment in others, especially our parents (and grandparents) but know that your heavenly Father will never disappoint when you wait on him.
