I’ve just done something terrible. Can you relate? Made cutting remark to a loved one, was tempted and fell into making a dishonest choice, or spent time looking at something on your phone that wasn’t “holy”.
In moments of remorse, sometimes we can question whether our faith in Christ is legit. If I really believed, wouldn’t I make better choices? Yet, we must remember that Jesus, in His wisdom and boundless love, already knows our faults and weaknesses. Even in our darkest moments, He remains steadfast in his grace and forgiveness.
The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 3:23-24, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” This serves as a beacon of hope, reassuring us that our worthiness is not dependent on our actions, but on Christ’s sacrifice.
Also, 1 John 1:9 offers our pathway to redemption: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This emphasizes how important it is to acknowledge our wrongdoing and ask God for his forgiveness. We are assured and confident in God’s unwavering faithfulness.
God is not surprised or disappointed in us. Ever.
Actually, nothing surprises God. He loves us and wants the best for us. Despite our failings, God extends his mercy, and “his mercies never come to an end” (Lamentations 3:22).
We will continue to be tempted and sometimes fall into sin on this side of eternal life. Know that you are beloved, as imperfect as you are, as God’s truth in his Word assures us of our standing with him, as sons and daughters of the Risen King.
