Consider reading this as your prayer prior to enjoying your Thanksgiving meal:
Dear Lord,
It is so easy in this present age to get caught up in politics, world affairs, the economy, health care costs and all the worries of this world. Yet at the first Thanksgiving celebration, the Pilgrims prayed to you and gave thanks for the simplest of things – the rain. There had been a drought leading up to the celebration and a 14-day rain renewed the harvest and provided for all.
We have a drought, too. A drought in our hearts. Our hearts become parched as we search for peace and security, and as we seek this in this world, we are always left dry and disappointed. We ask, Father, that you provide the rain for our hearts, giving us a bountiful harvest of your Good News, and providing a peace that surpasses all understanding.
We offer ourselves to you, today, Father God, that you might reign in our lives. We are thankful for the sacrifice of your Son, that he came here to reign and that we might be his harvest. Renew our minds, renew our hearts, provide us with the gratitude due to you, our Maker and Creator.
May we enjoy this day together and may you be honored.
In Jesus name,
Amen
